Sex and Revolution in Cuba is a photographic essay that documents the LGTBIQ+ community in the country over a period of three years.
After Raúl Castro came to power, a series of economic and social changes began on the island. One of the most important changes announced by the regime is related to new policies aimed at raising awareness of sexual diversity and gender identity, led by Mariela Castro Espín (Raúl Castro’s daughter) and director of Cuba’s National Center for Sex Education. These changes are seen by some as a form of political marketing in terms of human rights.
An intimate portrait of the reality, life, and daily experiences of homosexual people in Cuba from different socioeconomic backgrounds, based on in-depth research into the real impact that these social policies have had on the LGTBI community.
