Erdogan, with its extreme neoliberal policy in the field of economics, has made the urban expansion of the high stakes of his government, subjecting both Istanbul and other major cities, to aggressive gentrification. Many neighborhoods in Istanbul, among which is the historic central district of Tarlabasi (compound today for a neighborhood of Kurds, Gypsies and a small community of illegal Africans), are affected by the new plans of forced evictions and implemented demolitions by the government. Tarlabasi is an island in the commercial and cultural heart of the city, and therefore, a strategic space to shape the future and new Istanbul. This neighborhood will, inevitably, become a way of inviting district office lofts and high-level houses.
